This is planned as a 1 day in person workshop at our Charlottesville shop. We are offering this class twice in May, Saturday May 6 from 9AM-6PM and Monday May 12 from 10AM-7PM The goal is to finish the skirt by the end of class. It is a long day of sewing and we will break for lunch.
You can bring your own machine to sew on or sew on one of our studio machines.
So, are you ready to start sewing your own handmade wardrobe?
Pattern Details:
Skirts are an easy garment to fit. The Plain Jane skirt has an A-line silhouette featuring a wide-faced hem, elastic waistband, optional drawstring, and deep inseam pockets finished with french-seams. Plain Jane combines comfort and style and is certain to become your next wardrobe staple. (We will be sewing the skirt without the drawstring).

Supplies:
The Plain Jane Skirt sewing pattern is included in the class fee. Students will receive a PDF digital copy of the pattern to use in class and for future use.
In addition students will need to purchase;
- enough woven fabric to sew the selected size, 2.25 to 5 yards depending upon the skirt length, size and fabric width (scroll through the thumbnails to see the fabric guide)
- This skirt really shines in a 100% cotton fabric, like a poplin or lawn.
- 100M all purpose thread
- 70/11 or 80/12 Universal sewing machine needle
We recommend purchasing a cotton poplin or cotton lawn for this pattern. A linen or linen blend with a little structure will also work. The fabric should have a little bit of structure and not be too slippery, so stay away from rayons. We are eliminating the drawstring to save on construction time. You should consider your first skirt a 'wearable' muslin, so maybe don't use the most expensive or most treasured fabric.
If you want help with fabric choices come see us in the shop. For the class we suggest using a solid fabric so we don't have to deal with pattern matching or direction during cutting and construction. Flat bed sheets also work well for sewing garments. After working out any fit issues you can then sew another skirt in the dreamiest fabric you want.
Preparation required:
Pre-wash, dry, and press your fabric as needed before class.
