October 26: at our Main St. shop
This is a 1 day in person workshop at our Charlottesville shop. We will meet on Saturday October 26 from 9:30AM-5:30PM The goal is to finish the top by the end of class.
We suggest bringing your own sewing machine (in good working order) , if this is not possible (or convenient) you can sew on one of our studio machines.
Are you ready to start sewing your own Handmade Wardrobe?
The Cielo Top is an easy, breezy take on a boxy tee. Loaded with interesting details and interchangeable features, it will fast become a wardrobe-building favorite.
Pattern Details:
In this class we will be sewing the top with a cuffed short sleeve (View A). If you love the pattern then you will have many other options if you want to sew another version of the pattern. A dramatic gathered long sleeve (View B) or, make an easy-fitting dress with sleek inseam pockets (View C), or without pockets (View D). All views have a slightly dropped shoulder, angled shoulder yoke and roomy fit, with a choice between an elegant bias binding or a faced neckline finish.
Sizing Details
The Cielo Top is offered in sizes 0-32 fitting up to a 60" bust and 63" hip. The pattern also offers multiple sewing cup sizes.
See a detailed size guide and finished garment measurements for the pattern here.
We have made every effort to be size inclusive in selecting our Wardrobe Basics patterns. During class we can grade between the sizes included in the pattern but we will not have enough time to completely grade up or down to a size not included in the pattern. If you have questions about sizing please contact the shop. The pattern is drafted for a body with breasts but we can remove the bust dart in the pattern to better fit those without breasts.

Supplies:
The Cielo Top/Dress sewing pattern is included in the class fee. Students will receive a PDF digital copy of the pattern to use in class and for future use.
In addition students will need to purchase;
- enough woven fabric to sew your size, 1.25 to 2.5 yards depending upon the size and fabric width (see detailed fabric requirements here)
- Our suggests for fabric include, Brussels Washer, Sicily, Jubilee and Ashton
- coordinating thread
We recommend purchasing a solid fabric in a cotton, linen or cotton/linen blend for the class. You should consider your first top a 'wearable' muslin, so maybe don't use the most expensive fabric. If you want help with fabric choices come see us in the shop. For the class we suggest using a solid fabric so we don't have to deal with pattern matching during cutting and construction. Flat bed sheets also work well for sewing garments. After working out any fit issues you can then sew another top or dress in the dreamiest fabric you want.
Preparation required:
Pre-wash, dry, and press your fabric as needed before class.
Please familiarize yourself with our class policies before enrolling.
