Please note this is an in person KAL that will take place in our Charlottesville, VA shop.
The Patterns
This January, Elise and Jessamy are both ready for a breather between sweaters. What better time to knit a fun winter accessory! This KAL will focus on knitting scarves, hats, cowls, and mitts, and hopefully will be the motivation you need to finish that accessory before winter is over!
We have rounded up some patterns below that we are particularly excited about, but as always, please feel free to choose the accessory project that you most want to work on over the next 3 weeks!
(Please note these links will take you to the Ravelry Pattern page for each suggested pattern)
Mitts:
-
Ooey Gooey Mitts by Andrea Mowry in Cautiva and Dyed in the Wool
-
Rosie Mittens in Jensen Yarn DK - a brand new yarn in the shop!
Cowls:
-
Grid Gambit Cowl by Samantha Gurein, knit up in either a Sport or Dk yarn, you could pair Dyed in the Wool with Jensen DK
-
Ooey Gooey or Frame Your Face Cowls by Andrea Mowry
Shawls & Scarves:
-
Turtle Dove Shawl by Sari Nordland this would be beautiful knit up in Knitting for Olive Merino and Soft Silk Mohair
-
Ritual Kerchief by Caitlin Hunter, this one can be knit up in any yarn, any gauge! It is a true choose your own adventure project, although we love a soft fluffy yarn for this one like Isager Soft
-
Variations on a Triangle by Midori House, the combinations are endless, but Knitting for Olive Merino or Kaos Organic Merino are a great base for this exciting pattern.
-
Sophie Shawl or Sophie Hood by Petite Knit which would be lovely knit up in Alpakka Ull, Isager Soft, or Woolfolk Luft
Hats:
-
Musselburgh Hat by Ysolda which can be knit in any weight yarn, but since the hat is doubled we recommend choosing something on the lighter end like WoolDreamers Cautiva, a wooly and warm sport weight yarn.
-
Manhattan Hat by Tori You ( a shop favorite!) WoolDreamers Mota is the perfect base for this classic ribbed hat. As a bonus, there is also a Lite and Bulky version of this hat, so really you can use almost any yarn!
How does the KAL work?
KAL stands for knit along. In a KAL knitters typically knit the same or similar project. During the KAL, knitters get support to help navigate any tricky parts, learn a new skill, or trouble shoot along the way.
The KAL is not a typical class, but Jessamy and Elise have ample knitting experience and will be able to answer questions, or help with any issues that crop up. We also have a lot of fun and the meetings are quite social.
The cost of the KAL is a deposit that will be applied to your account as store credit. It is good for the 30 days following your registration. If you chose to knit from stash or purchase your yarn elsewhere, your payment is considered a participation fee.
This KAL will run for three weeks, and while you do not need to come each week, we will be working together to go over challenging techniques and constructions in each meeting. There is no pressure to finish your project during the KAL, but we are hoping everyone has a good solid start and feels confident to finish at their own pace. We also strongly encourage you to come to our weekly Makers Circle
