This is planned as a 3 day in person workshop at our Charlottesville shop. We are offering this class from Friday May 30 - Sunday June 1. Friday we will meet from 4PM-7PM, Saturday 9:30AM-6PM and Sunday 9:30AM-4:00PM. The goal is to complete the pants.
For this class we ask that you bring your sewing machine from home to use during class.
'Hard Pants' (those with a fly in the front) can be intimidating to sew, so come learn how to sew a pair in our sunny studio with EWE shop owner, Deren.
Pattern Details:
The Falconer Pants are high-waisted woven pants with two leg shape options. View A is full length with a wide leg and view B is ankle length with a barrel leg. Both views feature a unique side panel detail with set-in side pockets. The Falconer Pants have a zipper fly closure and a curved waistband. These pants are designed with medium to heavyweight wovens in mind, such as denim, twill, and canvas. You will love the effortlessly cool fit and design details of the Falconer Pants!

See size details and fabric requirements here.
We have made every effort to be size inclusive in selecting our Wardrobe Basics patterns. If you have questions about sizing please contact the shop.

This class has a prerequisite:
You should feel comfortable at a sewing machine and have sewed at least one (if not more) woven fabric garments following a pattern.
If you have take one of our beginner 'Wardrobe Basics' classes then you meet the requirement for this class.

What you'll learn:
how to choose your correct size
how to modify a pattern
how to baste fit
topstitching using heavy thread
how to sew a waistband with a zippered fly
how to adjust a zipper length
how to sew a bar tack
how to sew a jean buttonhole
*Disclaimer* Pants are notoriously tricky to fit and require that you first sew a 'muslin' to work out any fit issues. In this class, we will make any obvious modifications to the pattern before cutting and sewing (inseam length, rise length and grading between sizes). We will do a basted fit check before finishing, which will allow for tweaking the fit a little bit. Ideally you will end up with a pair of pants that are wearable but may not be the ideal fit you want. Hopefully we will have time to do a final fit check after finishing and map out any adjustments that you might want to make in the future.
Supplies:
The Falconer Pants pattern in the class fee. Students will receive a PDF digital copy of the pattern to use in class and for future use.
In addition students will need to purchase;
- enough twill fabric to sew the selected size, 2.4 to 4 yards depending upon the , size and fabric width
- 100M All Purpose thread
- 100M Extra Strong thread for topstitching
- 90/14 Universal or Denim sewing machine needle
- 1/2 yard fusible interfacing
- 17mm jean tack button or sew on button
You should consider your first pants a 'wearable' muslin, so maybe don't use the most expensive or most treasured fabric.
