Brooklyn Tweed has initiated a program called Apart Together in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The goal of the program is to support Brooklyn Tweed stockists, and to offer accessible pricing for knitters who may be financially affected by COVID-19. From March 18 – May 15 all Brooklyn Tweed yarns will be sold using a “pay what you choose” model.
If you purchase yarns from our online shop (with shipping or for local pick-up*) you decide what you pay and besides a discount, Brooklyn Tweed will credit us towards the purchase of more yarn for the shop. Here is how it works, just shop for the yarn you want and at checkout use one of the discount codes below:
Full price (no code needed): you don't get a discount but 30% of the regular retail price of your purchase is credited to EWE. EWE in turn will donate 30% of your purchase price to Congregate Charlottesville. Congregate Charlottesville is administering a community mini grant program to help people who's income has been impacted by COVID-19. The grants are intended to help pay for food, rent, medicine and utilties.
10% off BT: you will save 10% off your BT yarn purchase and 20% of the regular retail price of your purchase is credited to EWE.
20% off BT: you will save 20% off your BT purchase and 10% of the regular retail price of your purchase is credited to EWE.
30% off BT: you will save 30% off your BT purchase and 5% of the regular retail price of your purchase is credited to EWE.
If you find that we don’t have the Brooklyn Tweed yarn you want in stock, you can place your order on the BT website. They will be offering the same “pay what you choose” options and if you mention EWE Fibers in a note at checkout we will receive a credit on our account towards the purchase of more yarn for the shop.
(*Since you can't use more than 1 discount code during checkout local customers will not be able to use the localpickup code to void shipping charges. If you plan to pick up your order just leave a note when you check out and we will refund any shipping charges.)
Fingering-weight Loft channels Targhee-Columbia wool’s airy bounce into feather-light lace, accessories, and garments. Like Shelter, Loft is a woolen-spun 2-ply yarn with delicate twist, specially designed for unique lightness of hand. It’s not a sock yarn, so treat it a little more gently when it’s on the winder and the needles. Once your garment is blocked, the stitches will cohere in a beautifully even and sturdy fabric. Lace garments should open up to reveal stitch motifs with relatively mild blocking. Loft has great flexibility of gauge; it can be knit on 2mm (US 0) needles for a dense and durable fabric or on 4mm (US 6) needles for ethereal open work. Two strands of Loft held together can substitute for Shelter in patterns where you’d like greater stitch definition or a marled fabric of two colors.
- 275 yards | 23-24 microns | approx. 50 grams | fingering weight
- 100% Wyoming-grown Targhee-Columbia wool
- Dyed in Philadelphia. Spun in New Hampshire.
As a result of its woolen-spun manufacturing process, Loft is suitable for a wonderful range of gauges:
- 6 stitches to 1" | Suggested Needle: 3½ mm (US 4)
- 7 stitches to 1" | Suggested Needle: 2¾ mm (US 2)
- 8 stitches to 1" | Suggested Needle: 2 mm (US 0)
Fill a sink or basin with warm water and submerge the fabric in water, gently squeezing out any air bubbles so that the piece can remain under water without being held there. Soak work for 20-30 minutes, allowing fabric to become completely saturated. Remove excess moisture by rolling your fabric between clean, dry towels with light pressure. Lay fabric flat and shape to air dry.
Please note that the color settings on your monitor may not display yarn colors accurately.
