This is an in person class held in our Charlottesville shop studio. Class will meet on Saturday January 11, 2025 from 10:00AM - 5:00PM. The class fee is $95 and includes the sewing pattern.
This class is the perfect introduction to sewing with knit fabrics. Â Knit tees are the basic garment for most of our wardrobes, however, they can be intimidating to sew with when you are just starting out. Â
Being able to make a basic t-shirt is truly a super power. Whether you are new to sewing or simply want to learn new techniques for working with knit fabric, this class is a great option for learning more about size charts, pattern adjustments, and sewing stretchy fabrics.
Some things you will learn:
- how to determine the stretch percentage of your fabric
- sizing considerations for knits
- basic pattern adjustments
- what settings to use on your sewing machine
- general t-shirt construction, including set-in-sleeve and binding
In this class, we will do all of the sewing on a regular sewing machine, using a zigzag stitch (we will not be sewing on sergers).
If you have a sewing machine (in good working order), we suggest bringing your machine to sew with in class. If not possible (or convenient) we will have machines in the shop to use during class.
For this class we have selected 2 options for sewing patterns to allow for the widest size range and to be gender inclusive.
The Bedrock Tee by Sew Liberated. Fitted in the places you like, loose in the places you prefer a little extra room, Bedrock will be your new favorite tee. With two silhouettes, as well as tank, short sleeve, and long sleeve options, Bedrock is a quick sew and builds a strong foundation for your wardrobe. The size chart goes up to a 58.5" bust and 61" hip.
The Sage Tee by Elbe Textiles is a classic relaxed fit, crewneck t-shirt. The size chart is sized for men, but this pattern can be used for any gender. Size Range: This pattern goes up to a 58" chest.
We have made every effort to be size inclusive in selecting our class patterns. During class we can grade between the sizes included in the pattern but we will not have enough time to completely grade up or down to a size not included in the pattern. If you have questions about sizing please contact the shop.
