Tuesdays 6-8PM: April 2, 9, 16, 23
Our very own EWE staff member, Jacqueline Cieslak, is releasing her first sweater pattern, and we are very excited to host a KAL with her! The patterns will be released just before the start of the KAL, but we will have details about sizing and yarn quantities posted ahead of time.
For this KAL, you can choose Ursa or Ursa Minor (or both!):
Ursa is a cropped raglan pullover in a bulky weight yarn with half-brioche stitch detailing. The pattern comes in 9 sizes (34" to 66" bust) with recommended 2-6" of ease and instruction for optional bust darts in 3 different cup sizes. The sweater is seamless, knit in one piece from the top down, allowing you to try it on as you go.
Ursa Minor is the same sweater in size and structure as Ursa, but instead of the half-brioche stitch detailing, it features broken rib and no triangle along the bottom hem.
Recommended yarn, gauge, and needles:
The pattern was designed with Ranger Merino Bulky from Echoview Fiber Mill, a beautiful, super soft bulky yarn with a loose ply and some drape. We have also knit it in Quince & Co. Puffin and Brooklyn Tweed Quarry — and during the KAL, Jacqui will be making a linen version out of Quince & Co. Kestrel. Drop by the shop for help selecting your yarn!
Gauge: 11.5 sts and 20 rows over 4” in blocked stockinette stitch
URSA recommended needles: one US 10.5 (6.5 mm) 32” (sizes 34-46) or 40” (sizes 50-66) circular; DPNs for sleeves if not using magic loop
URSA MINOR recommended needles: two circular needles, US 10.5 (6.5 mm) and US 9 (5.5 mm), with 32” (sizes 34-46) or 40” (sizes 50-66) cords; DPNs for sleeves if not using magic loop
How does the KAL work?
KAL stands for knit along. In a KAL knitters typically knit the same or similar project. During the KAL, knitters get support to help navigate any tricky parts, learn a new skill, or trouble shoot along the way. The format is informal, so it is possible to join in at any time and it is not necessary to attend every knitting session.
The KAL is not a class but there will be an instructor (and other experienced knitters) at each session to answer questions, or help with any issues that crop up. We also have a lot of fun and the meetings are quite social.
There is no cost to participate in the KAL, but we do ask that you knit a project consistent with the KAL theme and purchase your pattern and yarn from us. We stock a good supply of yarns for almost any pattern you choose.
Get 10% off your KAL purchase, including yarn and needles. *Not to be combined with any other offers.
You do not need to come each week, and you can start your project at any point during the KAL. If you can't make it on Tuesday evening, you can come knit your project at our weekly Makers Circle.
If you want to participate in the KAL please add it to your cart and check out (there is no charge). This helps us keep track of how many knitters to expect.
