Tuesday, June 18, 25 & July 2 6:00–8:30 PM
This class introduces you to pants/shorts sewing with a simple but beautiful pattern: The Rose Pants by Made by Rae. You can choose to sew any one of the three lengths included in the pattern: long, cropped, or shorts. The pattern features front slash pockets, instructions for various pleats or gathers at the waist, and a flat front waistband with elastic in the back. If you have never sewn a pair of pants this is a great first pant pattern.
We are happy to help you choose your correct size and help with some basic pants fitting, but the focus of this class will be constructing the pants. We want you to feel confident and comfortable in a well fitting pair of pants, but please note that it often takes sewing the pattern a few times to get a *perfect* fit.
When selecting your size you will need to consider your waist and hip measurements. If your measurements correspond to different sizes then choose the size based on your hip measurement. If you need help with sizing, come by the shop or give us a call.
Here is the size chart for the Rose Pants:
If you need additional help making significant sizing alterations (such as grading down or up to a size not included in the pattern), please schedule a private lesson ahead of time. We will not have time in class to grade the entire pattern down or up to sizes that extend beyond the available pattern sizes.
Prior to class:
You will need to purchase your fabric, pre-wash, dry, and iron it. Select the size you want to sew, trace and cut out your paper pattern pieces before the first class. If you need help choosing a size or have questions about cutting out the pattern, drop by the shop anytime.
Tuesday, June 18 - 6:00PM to 8:30PM
In the first session you will lay out your pattern pieces and cut your fabric, finish raw edges, and interface the necessary pattern pieces.

In the second session of the class you will attach the pockets and do a baste fitting. We will learn about the different types of gathers provided in the pattern and choose what is best suited to your fabric and style. We will continue with sewing and do as much as time allows.
