Making a Rhinebeck sweater to wear to the NY Sheep and Wool festival has become a tradition for many knitters. Pattern selections are pored over, eye-catching colors and yarn are chosen, techniques are selected to highlight skills. Knitters work furiously before the festival, finishing in the car, blocking on hotel beds, anything to ensure the fabulous new garment can make its debut in the perfect environment — among a community who will truly appreciate it.
It doesn't really matter if you even plan to attend Rhinebeck, the important thing is to knit a sweater and wear it with pride!
So, we are kicking off knitting season by casting on a "I wish I was going to Rhinbeck" sweater. The skies the limit here, but try to choose a pattern that you can actually get done by Rhinebeck, which starts October 19!
We have created a Rhinebeck Sweater folder on Ravelry with some of the hot sweater patterns we are seeing (but by no means is this list exhaustive). Deren has already started her Stonecrop Pullover which Andrea Mowry designed specifically for this years festival.
New yarns are coming in so we should be stocked well for any project.
How does the KAL work?
KAL stands for knit along. In a KAL knitters typically knit the same or similar project. During the KAL, knitters get support to help navigate any tricky parts, learn a new skill, or trouble shoot along the way. The format is informal, so it is possible to join in at any time and it is not necessary to attend every knitting session.
The KAL is not a class but there will be an instructor (and other experienced knitters) at each session to answer questions, or help with any issues that crop up. We also have a lot of fun and the meetings are quite social.
There is no cost to participate in the KAL, but we do ask that you knit a project consistent with the KAL theme and purchase your pattern and yarn from us. We stock a good supply of yarns for almost any pattern you choose.
Get 10% off your KAL purchase, including yarn and needles. *Not to be combined with any other offers.
You do not need to come each week, and you can start your project at any point during the KAL. If you can't make it on Monday evening, you can come knit your project at our weekly Makers Circle.
If you want to participate in the KAL please add it to your cart and check out. There is no charge and you will not have to add any payment information. This helps us keep track of how many knitters to expect.
