This class will take place at our shop, EWE Fibers, in Charlottesville, Virginia. The class is not an online class. We love offering our free workshop series but, we do have limited space......so only sign up if you can commit to attend. If you are not sure, consider leaving the space for someone else or wait and sign up closer to the workshop date just to be sure.
The instruction "pick up and knit" is one of the most common instructions in knitting patterns, but it also one of the techniques we get asked questions about most frequently in the shop. How and where should you pick up stitches for a neckline? For a drop sleeve on a sweater? For a button band on a cardigan? For the cast-on edge or the vertical edge of your knitting? This hands-on EWE School will walk you through a variety of ways to "pick up and knit" and address some of the most common problems encountered when doing so.
Using wool or a wool substitute yarn (please no cotton/linen/acrylic because it has no give) in a dk, worsted, or aran weight on appropriate needles, work the following swatch and bring it to class:
- Cast on 30 stitches using a long tail cast on.
- Work in stockinette stitch for 20 rows.
- Work 2x2 ribbing for 5 rows.
- Bind off knitwise.
Bring your completed swatch, at least 2-3 yards of yarn you used to knit it, and your needles to class.
Please familiarize yourself with our class policies before enrolling.
