In this 3-part class, students create an animal of their choice — rabbit, bear, fox, elephant, monkey, mouse, or cat — and then make an outfit for their custom critter! This class is all about the construction techniques and tips for getting a great finished toy. We will use patterns from Julie Williams' inspiring blog, Little Cotton Rabbits. This is a good class for knitters who want to try their first toy, but it is also helpful for seasoned toy knitters who want to learn some tricks for creating a really sharp finished critter.

Skills needed:

  • Knit and purl comfortably
  • Cast-on and bind-off

What you'll learn:

  • Reading and understanding the pattern for a knitted toy
  • Increasing and decreasing
  • Mattress seam
  • Stuffing and assembling a toy
  • Special tips for making the cutest possible toy face

Materials: *

  • Worsted or dk weight yarn in colors according to your chosen pattern
  • US 2 and US 2.5 needles (straight, DPNs, or circular — pattern is knit flat)
  • Pattern: any animal of your choice ($5.50)

*Students receive 10% off any supplies purchased for the class.

Preparation required:

Students should come to the first class with an idea about which critter they want to knit. Check out the patterns here. There will be time to select yarn and patterns to purchase the first day.
