Pattern Details:
A traditional pair of loose fitting dungarees. A hard-working wardrobe staple featuring classic detailing and optional top stitching. The overalls are meant to be oversized, so size down if you fall between sizes.
Fabric Details:
We chose to sew our samples in Ventana Twill, which is a 100% cotton fabric from Robert Kaufman. It is easy to sew with, and is a hard wearing fabric, while not being too bulky. The fabric is 45" wide and comes in at 7.6oz sq/yd.
Hardware:
The hardware kits come with all of the pieces required for the overalls. There are no special tools required. Here is a video showing how to install a tack button.
Sizing and Modification Details:
You should consult the sizing charts to determine what size to purchase. There are two size charts for the Harlene pattern, sizes 6-18 or sizes 20-28.
Pattern is sized to fit
Here is our experience with sizing:
Shop owner Deren sewed a size 12 based on her hip measurement of 38.5". She is 5'1", shortened the legs by 2" and shortened the straps by about 5". The pants are roomy and she can easily pull them on without opening the side buttons. This is despite her waist being a good bit larger than the body measurement suggested for a size 12. She could easily have sewn down a size. Deren chose the Unbleached color and sewed her top stitching with Gutermann Sew-All thread in a matching color (included in the bundle). She used the distressed black hardware.
Elise sewed the size 24 up top, and graded down to the 18 in the legs. She is 5’2” and shortened the legs by 4”, shortened the bib by 2”, and shortened the straps by 5". Elise omitted the faux fly, and added a self-drafted knee reinforcement for visual interest and durability. This extra piece is not included in the pattern. Elise, also chose the Unbleached color and sewed a high contrast top stitching, in red, using Gutermann Extra Strong thread (not included in the bundle). She used the distressed black hardware.
