The Arthur Pants are a versatile pant pattern, with a distinctive Barrel leg shape. Paired with our Grace Hemp, they can be casual or dressy, depending on how you style them.
We love the heavyweight Grace for this pant as it holds it shape, while still moving with you. We've chosen to sew view A, with the flat front waist and pleats, but our bundle includes enough elastic so that you could sew either View A or B.
This is an intermediate level pattern.
Deren's sizing information:
Deren is 5' 1" tall and is wearing the size 8 pants in the color Masala. The legs have been shorted 5"
(the pattern was drafted for someone 5'7". You absolutely must do the shortening or lengthening on the pattern pieces before cutting your fabric). A size 8 is one size down from Deren's body measurements but worked just fine given the 24" of ease at the hip and the elastic in the back waistband. Deren also cut her pants out of less fabric than recommended in the pattern directions (2.75 yds). Jessamy's sizing information:
Jessamy is also 5'1" tall, and is wearing the size 4. This is one size down from her recommended size. She has shortened the legs by 2", and used 2.75 yards. She has sewn them in the Grace Hemp in Black, and they have been lovingly washed and worn for months prior to these photos being taken. More about Hemp:
Hemp behaves and looks much like linen. It is also grown and processed in a similar way, yet it can yield twice as much fibre as flax. It has a short growing period of about 100 days and so can be planted and harvested up to four times a year. The cultivation process naturally reduces pests and returns 60-70% of the nutrients it takes into the soil. It requires little water or pesticides and no fertilizers. It is the most carbon negative crop, absorbing more carbon dioxide than it produces. Hemp is extremely durable, up to three times stronger than cotton. It’s soft to touch, and can hold its shape well. Hemp is naturally breathable and highly water absorbent.
Care Instructions: Wash in warm water. Do not tumble. Shake out and dry flat. Hemp will always seize up after washing but as soon as you start to use/wear it the fibers relax again.
