Do you have fabric sitting in your stash that isn’t getting the love it deserves? Maybe it doesn’t excite you any more, or you no longer want to make the project you intended to use it for? This has happened to all of us, but fear not, we are here to help breathe life into that unloved fabric!
In an effort to reduce waste, build community, and encourage joy in making, we are hosting our first ever fabric swap. Participants can bring fabric they no longer want, to swap with fabric from other sewists, and go home with something new that they are excited to work with!
Join us on Tuesday, February 13, 5pm-7pm
Here are some guidelines and things to keep in mind:
We expect everyone who brings fabric to take fabric. This is not intended as a deep clean out or get rid of everything type of exercise, but more of a self evaluation of your current sewing intentions and the appropriateness of the fabrics you have on hand. If you have a large amount of fabric or scraps that you no longer want you may want to consider bringing them to the Scrappy Elephant.
Fabrics which can be included in the swap must be clean and at least 1.5 yards in length, with no cutouts. We are not taking fat quarters or scraps for this swap.
Please label all fabrics (a piece of masking tape will do) before dropping them of at EWE Fibers. Include as much information as you can about your fabric. It will help others participating in the swap to know what they are getting. It would also be fun to know where you purchased the fabric and what you intended to use it for!
If you know it, please include on your fabric label:
•width and length
•weight per sq/ounce or gram/sq meter
So how does this work?
Drop your fabric or at EWE leading up to the event. We will measure and categorize all submissions so the swapping is as organized as possible.
Fabrics for the swap must be dropped at EWE Fibers by Sunday, February 11.
On swap night, each participant will receive a ticket indicating what they are allowed to swap for. You will choose fabrics from two categories based on what you brought in to swap. We hope this system will help facilitate even swaps.
Fabrics will be divided into 2 categories:
1.5 - 2.5 yard lengths
2.5+ yard lengths
Remember this is a community building event. We hope that you will find some new fabrics to love, while passing on some that no longer inspire you. However, we cannot guarantee that you will find an equivalent swap for every cut that you bring in.
Any unclaimed fabric will be donated to the Scrappy Elephant.
We look forward to sharing the fabric love with you!
