This class is part of our Fall into Color series, which includes: Colorwork 101, Techniques in Colorwork, and a yoked sweater KAL (coming in January 2019).

Sundays, October 14 & 28, 10AM–1PM

In this 2-part class, knitters learn the techniques for stranded colorwork, or "Fair Isle" knitting. We make a beautiful headband by Scottish knitwear designer Kate Davies — a great pattern with simple construction that allows us to focus on color theory and knitting techniques. This class is a thorough introduction to colorwork for knitters who have never tried it, but it is also an opportunity to learn new techniques for knitters who are looking to fine-tune their colorwork skills.

Skills needed:

  • Knit and purl comfortably
  • Knitting in the round

What you'll learn:

  • Provisional cast-on
  • 3-needle bind-off
  • I-cord bind-off
  • Color theory
  • Techniques for stranded colorwork
  • Reading a colorwork chart

Materials: *

  • Fingering weight yarn in 5 colors
  • 16” circular needles in sizes: US 1, US 3
  • Pattern: “Wazz’s Winter Walking Outfit #1” by Kate Davies ($6)

**You do not need your yarn selected before the start of the first class, because we will be doing “color theory” and we will provide time in class to choose your yarn and select your colors.

*Students receive 10% off any supplies purchased for the class.

Preparation required:

Students should come to the first class with an idea about what kind of color combinations they would like for their headband.

While no knitting prep is required for this class, students who are comfortable with a provisional cast-on are encouraged to cast on 130 stitches with waste yarn on the smaller needles before the first class.

Please familiarize yourself with our class policies before enrolling.
