This 2-part class will walk knitters through Leila Raabe's Bough, a classic pattern with a fluffy pom-pom and an optional matching cowl. Knit in a squishy worsted weight yarn, you won't want to take this hat off all winter!

Skills needed:

  • Knit and purl comfortably
  • Knitting in the round

What you'll learn:

  • Basic techniques for hat knitting
  • cable chart reading
  • 1x1 cabling and 3x3 cabling
  • increasing and decreasing
  • pom-pom making
  • knitting into the back loop

Materials: *

  • 215 yards of worsted-weight yarn
  • US 4 16” circular
  • US 7 16” circular
  • cable needle
  • Pattern: “Bough Hat” by Leila Raabe ($8)

Please select your yarn and have it wound before the start of the first class.

*Students receive 10% off any supplies purchased for the class.

Preparation required:

Prior to the start of the first class, knitters should work the pattern up to the point where the cabling begins. Specifically: on page 5 of the pattern, follow the instructions to cast on, work the ribbing, work the increase round, and knit the first 3 rounds of the cable chart. The pattern suggests a twisted rib pattern, but you can do a simply 1x1 rib if you prefer. Drop by the shop sometime before the first class if you need help starting the project!

Please familiarize yourself with our class policies before enrolling.
