- This organic cotton knit is easy to sew and work with. It does not have a great amount of stretch and you should treat it like a cotton woven fabric. You can sew it with a straight stitch on your sewing machine.
- In the dye bath the fabric is heavy and sticks together, so the color can be uneven across the cloth. The textures are beautifully organic.
Botanically dyed fabrics are a labor of love and a slow process. This palette was developed exclusively for the Embody Capsule Wardrobe collection (but of course feel free to use the fabric for any sewing project).
Deren dyes all of the fabric in her backyard 'dye studio'. The fabrics are gently scoured and dyed using rainwater. Deren loves to dye using plants grown in her garden or foraged locally.
The colors are colorfast but we recommend, washing on gentle cycle and hanging to dry. You can tumble in the dryer for a few minutes to soften if you prefer.
Hand-dyed fabrics have texture and the color plays across the fabric in unique ways. The color saturation is almost never uniform, and can be used intentionally to create beautiful patterns on the fabric.
The colors Marigold Burst and Olive Burst are dyed with intentional unevenness of color. The color in Olive Burst is layered with olive green, grey and a hint of brown.
Fabrics are dyed to order so each is inherently unique. Deren employs a systematic approach to her dyeing and formula creation but when working with botanical color not everything can be absolutely controlled and results can vary slightly.
We cut in 1/4 yard increments. The amount available refers to how many quarter yard increments we have in stock.
To choose the amount you want enter the number of quarter yard increments you need (rest assured we will cut your cloth in one piece). Example: If you would like 2.5 yards, enter "10" in the box.
