Pattern Details:
This is a confident beginner pattern. The instructions are clear and there are not a lot of pattern pieces. You could choose to add snaps if making buttonholes is not your thing.
The size chart for the pattern is here. The size range is somewhat limited, given that the jacket is expected to fit with a small amount of ease. We recommending sizing up at least one size, although two may be ideal.
Deren's Details:
Deren wanted a simple to sew jacket to wear as a layering piece for Spring. She chose the Jacquard Cotton fabric in the color Pollen for the outer layer and the Spot Indian cotton in Olive for the lining. The Indian cotton is very light, which results in the jacket being a nice light layer.
Deren sewed a size 42, which is one size up from her measurements (36", 30", 38"). The jacket fits comfortably over a long sleeve shirt or light sweater, but she could have easily sewn up one more size and still have the jacket fit well.
Deren is 5'1" tall and made no modification to the length of the jacket.
The pattern includes a sleeve placket which is omitted here. Deren usually shortens her sleeves a good bit and found that the sleeve without the placket was a suitable length for her. She simply hemmed the outer layer and lining together. The wrist circumference without the placket fits comfortably and can be rolled back.
Deren used some handmade buttons she had in her stash to complete the jacket.
