Have you ever been following along in a sewing pattern and come to a direction that states: Finish seams as desired; and you’ve wondered, how do I want to finish the seams? What is the best method for this pattern, fabric, and my skill level? Maybe you have heard of flat felled or bias bound seams and wondered what they were and when to use them?
If you have any of these questions or more, this is the class for you!
Learning different types of seam finishing is an important skill. Using the right finishes for your fabric and pattern can elevate the look and durability of your garment. In the shop we often spend time thinking about what seam finishes we will use on our garments before we start sewing. Having a variety of seam finishing techniques to chose from is indispensable.
During this 2 hour class we will go over a variety of different finishes that can be done simply on a sewing machine. You will sew a sample of each type of seam finish. Your will also learn and practice some finishes using the serger.
*No need to bring a sewing machine, you will sew on one of our machines in the studio.
What you'll learn:
How and when to use pinking shears
How to sew a serged seam
How to sew a French seam
How to sew a flat felled seam
How to sew a faux flat felled seam
How to sew bias bound seams
You will leave class with samples of each seam we sew.
